I came across this website while searching for local (Birmingham) advocates for food systems, nutrition, food access, and the likes. I am part of a team that is putting together a once-a-week class for medical students at the UAB School of Medicine to learn about these topics. The title of the course is “Obesity, Clinical Nutrition, and Food Policy.” Based on your work description, we would be interested in hearing from you about your work and experiences with food justice, anti-obesity initiatives, local advocates, and local food system. The objective of the course is to get medical students exposed to the disparity in our food system and its connection to adverse medical outcomes such as obesity in their future patients. I want to break down the common belief held by physicians that obesity is due to laziness and gluttony!
Do you think you would be interested in coming to 1 class to give a powerpoint talk about your line of work? Please contact me at hl31486@uab.edu.
